“Light is the only connection we have with the Universe beyond our solar system, and the only connection our ancestors had with anything beyond Earth. Follow the light and we can journey from the confines of our planet to other worlds that orbit the Sun without ever dreaming of spacecraft. To look up is to look back in time, because the ancient beams of light are messengers from the Universe’s distant past.” Professor Brian Cox

“I’m comfortable with the unknown – that’s the point of science. There are places out there, billions of places out there, that we know nothing about. And the fact that we know nothing about them excites me, and I want to go out and find out about them.

And that’s what science is.

So I think if you’re not comfortable with the unknown, then it’s difficult to be a scientist… I don’t need an answer. I don’t need answers to everything. I want to have answers to find.” Professor Brian Cox

(…) “We do understand why the world doesn’t run in reverse. There is a reason, we have a scientific explanation, and it´s called the arrow of time. We are compelled to travel into the future. And that´s because the arrow of time dictates that as each moment passes, things change. And once these changes have happened, they are never undone.

Permanent change is fundamental part of what it means to be human. You know, we all age as the years pass by. People are born, they live and they die. I suppose it´s part of the joy and tragedy of our lives. But out there in the universe, those grand and epic cycles appear eternal and unchanging, but that´s an illusion. See, in the life of the universe, just as in our lives, everything is irreversibly changing." Professor Brian Cox

“Life isn’t something mystical”, said Schrödinger, there isn’t some magical spark that animates life. Life is a process. It is the interaction between matter and energy described by the laws of physics and chemistry, the same laws that describe the falling of the rain or the shining of the stars.“ Professor Brian Cox. “Science is about exploring, and the only way to uncover the secrets of the universe is to go and look.” Professor Brian Cox

“Science is too important not to be part of popular culture. It is, as Carl Sagan always emphasized, "it is absolutely the foundation of our society, we live in a scientific society”, so to have a society where science is some how divorced from the rest of culture is seems to me as Sagan said again “Anti-democratic”. It is anti-democratic cause you have people who live in democracy who lives are controlled by scientific decisions. If they no nothing about the science, then there is a democratic deficit. And you have problems because society can make decisions that are not based on reason.“ Professor Brian Cox
